It’s the summer of 1969 – conclusion of a mythologised sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll decade that has come to define the lives of those born in the years following the Second World War.

But if the Sixties were one long party, then Barry never received his invitation. For him there has been precious little sex or rock ‘n’ roll, and certainly no drugs. Stymied by his chronic shyness and lack of confidence, he occasionally wonders whether he might have missed out on the fun others seem to be having.
